Delivery Frequently Asked Questions
How much will delivery cost?
All deliveries over £500 are FREE standard delivery (except in certain areas, use our delivery calculator to find out more). If your order comes to under £500 you can use our delivery calculator on the Delivery Info page to check the cost by simply typing in your postcode. Also, when you place items in your shopping basket and type in your postcode it will calculate the delivery charge automatically. If you add items it will update the total for you.
Will the driver need assistance with unloading?
Yes - on our standard delivery service the driver is unaccompanied and will need help to complete the delivery. We do ask that someone is available to lend a hand but if that isn't possible you can request a two man delivery team for a small extra charge. Please note delivery drivers are not able to deliver up stairs. Simply type your postcode into our delivery calculator for details.
Please note - if you have selected the standard one-man delivery option, and there is no help available for the driver, redelivery may need to be arranged at further cost to you. We subsidise the first delivery, and any subsequent journeys will be charged at full rate. We advise customers that items over 30kg or fully assembled products (e.g. chests of drawers and wardrobes) will need a second person capable of lifting.
I am not able to assist the driver. Can I get help with delivery?
Yes - in order to keep our prices low the drivers are unaccompanied on our standard delivery service. If you are unable to assist the driver or if you have ordered a single product that weighs over 30kg you will require a second driver. When you place your order you get the option to choose a two man delivery team for a small extra charge. Please note delivery drivers ware not able to deliver up stairs. Will you contact me with a delivery date?
We aim to dispatch items from our warehouses to carriers within 7-10 days of coming into stock. Our national carriers will then contact you within 10 working days of their receiving the goods to arrange delivery for most of mainland UK, and up to 18 working days for some areas, for example Scotland.
Small parcels are often delivered on a 48 hour service, for which there is not a facility to deliver at a pre-arranged time. If you are out when they try to deliver, they will leave a card with their telephone number to rearrange delivery.
Can I track my order?
Yes. The email that the delivery company sends you will contain a link that allows you to find out where you order is.
When will my delivery arrive?
Our small orders and standard delivery services operate Monday to Friday between 7:00am and 5:30pm and the two man team works between 7:00am and 7:00pm. Our drivers do everything that they can to stick to these times but sometimes traffic conditions may make delays unavoidable.
I am no longer able to receive my delivery. What should I do?
As soon as you know that you will not be able to receive a delivery please contact the delivery company and let them know. If you are cancelling the order you must also contact us directly giving us at least 24 hours notice. You can do this by email quoting your order number. If the goods have already been dispatched there will be a charge for delivery.
What happens if I miss my delivery?
If you miss your delivery the driver will leave you a card with the company contact details on it. You can telephone them and rearrange delivery on a day that is more convenient to you. We subsidise the first delivery, and there will be a charge for subsequent deliveries.
Do you deliver to my postcode area?
We deliver to most of the mainland UK. You can check whether we serve your area by using our delivery calculator. Simply type in your mainland UK postcode and click the button.
Will the driver take away the packaging?
Our drivers are not currently able to remove packaging due to time constraints. We do advise that you should retain all packing materials until you are sure that you are satisfied with your order. If you do need to return any item for any reason it does have to be repackaged to prevent any further damage. If you contact your local council they will be able to advise you on their cardboard recycling services.
Will the driver assemble my furniture?
Unfortunately our drivers are not able to assemble your furniture at this time.
My home is not on the ground floor. Will you be able to deliver?
To keep our prices as low as we can our drivers are normally unaccompanied. On a standard delivery our drivers are not able to carry goods up or down stairs even with assistance from the customer. If there is a lift available that the furniture will fit into then the delivery can go ahead.
For health & safety and insurance reasons the driver has the right to refuse to carry goods up or down stairs and we leave it up to him to make that assessment. This includes several steps up to a front door or down to a basement. If you live in a flat or any other property that is not ground floor please contact us before placing your order with a description of your particular circumstances.
Can I have my furniture taken to any room in the house?
Our standard delivery service is a one man delivery and will be delivered to just inside the front door. If you want the furniture placed in a room on the ground floor our two man team will be able help.
What if my furniture is damaged?
Please note when signing for your delivery, the item(s) should be thoroughly inspected for any signs of damage, including any packaging damage. If in doubt or damage is visable, please ensure that when signing to accept delivery, you record 'damaged on delivery' on the courier delivery sheet, as failure to do so will invalidate any claims. Once you have recorded any signs of damage on the courier delivery ticket, please email confirmation of the damage including photos where possible, to onlinesales@hovells.co.uk within 24 hours of delivery. Please also retain the delivery note from the courier along with all original item packaging.
